Playing music keeps me going. It gets me up bright and early in the morning for work, even if I don’t feel like it because I know at the end of the week I’ll get to play a gig or rehearse or record. I’ve only lived in New York a little over a month and I’m so glad I found Makar in that time because I get bummed pretty fast when I’m not playing my bass.
So about me. I come from the land of Chicago. Where you can get a good piece of pizza (sorry, I haven’t found anything good in NY… maybe I’m not looking in the right place). I listen to a lot of different types of music. I have shit loads of CD’s. I think the first band that really blew me away was the Chili Peppers. First thing I did when I became competent at bass was learn as many RHCP songs as possible. I don’t really have a whole lot of influences. I just kind of listen to a song or a melody and decide what will sound good on the low end. I try to do that without jeopardizing the melody or rhythm of a song. I started playing bass because everyone else I knew either played guitar or drums and it always seemed like there was a demand for bassists. I dabble with piano and guitar, but really the bass is my first and only love.
As far as bands that I dig, here goes it: Wilco, The Doves, Radiohead, RHCP, The Slackers, Beck, Sublime, Hepcat, Ben Folds, Big City Rock, The Impossibles, Slowreader, The Police, The Clash, John Frusciante, Jeff Buckley, Supergrass, Cake, Cat Stevens, The Doors, Violent Femmes, Bjork, Bob Marley, Tom Petty, The Beatles.
